Feels safe and handles well on motorways and narrow, twisting country lanes.
Comfortable, even if the ride is a little hard.
Rough surfaces 'jostle' you rather than shake you and the steering is positive with plenty of feel. Excellent adjustment of driving poistion.
Heavy on fuel and front tyres. Now seeming dated. time to change to the new model!
A few minor rattles from the fascia but otherwise well built and very reliable.
Bought new in late 2000, the 2001 Volvo S40 2.0 Turbo specification has been a very satisfactory purchase and a joy to own and drive.
The S40 has never had a good time from the motoring press in the UK but it is an under rated car. Those who own them seem to like them and keep them for some time.
Super safety ratings and equipment, which led the way in Europe. This car is comfortable and a good drive for the average motorist, if not the drving enthusiast. A lot cheaper than its over rated, German, 'prestige' rivals.
