Snapshot.'s review of Fuji Finepix S304

“A very nice and handy camera with excellent picture...”

★★★★☆

Good Points
Picture quality, colors, (optical) zoom range, price for value, storage speed

Bad Points
Electr. view finder (EVF), focussing in dark circumstances

General Comments
A very nice and handy camera with excellent picture quality for a 3M type. Storage of pics is fast, even in 3M fine mode and recharge of flash (less than a sec). The zoom range is excellent and quite unique in this range of camera's (38 -228mm, 35mm equivalent) and delivers great results. Easy to use, you can start taking pictures within 5 minutes and have pretty nice results for a first timer. The included Finepixviewer programs are nice to have (when you're a starter, more than sufficient).

The EVF is useless, the LCD is good enough. Taking pictures in darker circumstances can be a problem as you cannot see much on your LCD. Getting the right frame in your pic can be a problem. Once the picture is taken and you're satisfied with the frame, the result is still good.

Overall, I'm became enthousiatic user of the camera over the past period. Compared with the results of similar types (even some 4M's), Fuji did a fine job. A value for money camera to my opinion.

Snapshot - could you please say why you find the EVF useless and also give some idea on battery life?
<br>Otherwise, a very useful review for a prospective buyer.

The EVF in low light conditions is a problem, but then, so is the LCD.

I disagree with your opinion on the electric viewfinder, and prefer it to the LCD screen. The EVF has a much higher resolutuion to the lcd screen, giving a more true to life representation of colour, composure ect. Also having used SLR camera for over 6 years, using the viewfinder feels a lot more natural like a true "through the lens" view. The other bonus is that it uses less battery power than the screen.
