nalen's Review of Cobra Optics 1301 Nimbus Goggles
10th Mar 2006
Overall Rating
- Value for money

The head harness is extremely well built and comfortable to wear. It has a high degree of adjustments to fit most head sizes.
The NV monocular is easy to operate.
Bad Points
Gen 1 = poor light amplification & contrast.
Lots of distortions in picture.
Odd batteries. (LR1 1.5 volts).
Built-in IR only good at 10 - 15 yards.
General Comments
The Cobra Optics 1301 Nimbus Goggles original name is D-3MK and they are made by the Russian firm Dipol.
I bought them from www.rusmilitary.com for £298. The unit is overall well built, especially the head harness, but the monocular disappoints with it's poor optical performance. However, if an additional infrared illuminator is added the performance increases dramatically, but this could be a drawback... For example, if the device is used with active IR light in Airsoft/paintball games during the night, other players with NV devices could easily detect you.
I would recommend you not to buy this device. Save your money and buy a Gen 2+ NV device instead, but of course they are 4 - 5 times more expensive.
