I got this Sony NW-A1000 mp3 player for my birthday only a few days ago and I'm loving this little piece of equipment. I like to get the lastest technology so I can keep up with my mates and boy I have with this little wonder. I previously had a Sony NW-E-99 which had served me well with the Sonicsatge software and the 1 gig of memory but I wanted something special so I opted for the Sony Walkman.
I have given this product 9 out of 10 because-
First of all I will rate the hardware. 9.5 out of 10
I opened the box on my birthday thinking I may not be getting I was amazingly surpised when seeing this tiny mp3 player just sitting there. Waiting for me. I loaded on the software which took about 30mins I started to load on 550 songs which were already on the computer. Once I had loaded them on I couldn't believe how good the sound quality was compared to my previous player. The naviagation is as easy as ever so you can find any song with the menu. Some of the features I have found on my new player is top 100 which is my most listened to songs, year which picks a ramdon year a plays every song from that year. Which is just like a jukebox which I feel is brilliant. Also you can search initially which finds any tracks you want to listen to which is very useful if you have thousands of tracks. One feature which I feel is useless is the artist link. This feature has got its own button on the side of the player and I haven't got it working. Also by previous reveiws I have read the same problem as mine has been encouted by others so maybe it's a firmware problem on the player.
The hadware is brilliant.
I would rate the software 6 out of 10-
It took me ages just to install and put a few hundred songs on it(about 1h and a half). Also I had to put all the songs which I had on the Sonicstage software and put it on the player and then connect the player to the connect software. I left the player to let the software read the tracks which took a good few hours and then the brill features would work on the player. Also I feel the connect software should have a link to the Sonicstage software so the files can be easily imported from one to the other. Maybe they will do this on a upgrade.
Overall a great buy and would highly recommend it. But be warned, you have to keep yourself occupied for a good three to four hours to let the software do its work.
Buy quick though cause in some shops they are running out quick.
