Lovely, clean hotel. Good food. Lovely, friendly local people. Raymond Kingi was our guide (you will find him on the beach). A very nice, proffesional, trustworthy man. He can arrange all your trips and it is much cheaper than booking through the hotel. Though we were all ill, and I think that this is pretty normal, I would go again. Munga our waiter was fantastic! Colonel our room chap was also brilliant! We have many happy memories.
Bad Points
Hotel, African staff seem to be low paid and possibly paid very late sometimes. Bad roads. Food poisoning on safari. Over 24 hour delay leaving Gatwick.
General Comments
Watamu Beach Club is a good hotel. Good food. Lovely local people. Bad roads. Lovely setting. Very good local guide (Raymond Kingi). Find him on the beach and book everything through him! I have a few problems with the way local people are treated when employed by big European companies there. If you go, take some things for the people (toys, clothes etc) but take them to a village away from the tourist areas. These people are much poorer than those around the hotels.
