Good Points

Easy to stick to, good, steady weight loss, much cheaper than eating normally in spite of products appearing expensive.

Powders can be difficult to mix properly


General Comments

This is about the 4th time in my life that I have had a go at the Slim Fast diet (I am in my 30s).

The first time I tried it was when I was 21, and I found that by combining the Slim Fast diet with regular exercise produced incredible results. I went from 95kg to 85kg in 3 months. The product I used was the Hot Chocolate, which can be difficult to locate in shops, but you can get it on the Boots website.

Needless to say, when I came off that diet, the weight I had lost came back on over the course of the next 2 years.

The next couple of times I tried it, I only really dabbled in it, without combining it with an exercise regime, and unsurprisingly it had little effect. I lost my confidence in it and gave up, vowing never to bother again.

Anyway, by Christmas last year, my weight had reached almost 100kg, and I decided it was time to make a serious attempt at substantial and sustained weight loss, so I sought out my old friend Hot Chocolate Slim Fast. Boots had an offer on their website which got me 3 months' supply of the stuff.

I'm 6 weeks into it now, and I've lost 7kg. There are 2 important points to mention as to how I've used it this time. I have only been taking one Slim Fast meal a day, at lunchtime. I cannot stand 2 a day as it gets so bland and you really feel as though you're not eating healthily. I have a bowl of cereal for breakfast, and consume 3 or 4 pieces of fruit a day.

But most importantly, I have combined the diet this time with a disciplined exercise pattern. 6 weeks ago I started with 30 minutes, 4 times a week on various cardio machines (ellipital strider, rower), and have built this up to 40 minutes, 6 times a week.

In conclusion, I would say that Slim Fast once a day can help give you structure to your overall weight loss programme, giving you enough nutrition and energy to complete the exercise which is so vital to your overall success. I would advise strongly against taking Slim Fast twice a day as their packaging recommends you do, particularly if you're not planning to do any exercise.
