General Comments

Chocolat is a popular film, and it was memorable for its pairing of French film star sex symbol Juliette Binoche and US film star heart throb Johnny Depp.

Binoche's character, Vianne Rocher, is an outsider who arrives in a sleepy French town to open up a confectionery shop. She then embarks on a romance with Johnny Depp's character, who is a traveller.

The film is a light hearted and amusing fairy tale which looks at small towns conservative values. It was based on a short story.
