Refused to pay out
My dad has been with Direct Line Home Insurance for many years and was very happy with them until he came to make a claim.
Behind the house is a warehouse with a high brick wall around it. This collapsed, crashing into my dad's house and several others in the row, bringing down their back garden walls/gates. Direct Line did not send an assessor and would not cover the claim! His neighbours insurance company sent a builder to fix their wall and offered to rebuild my father's wall at no cost to him.
Not a huge job but it has guaranteed I will never use them! Direct Line may appear to offer value for money but in reality it is dead money if they refuse to pay out when they should! The last thing you want is difficulties with getting the insurance company to pay out when the security of your house and family is at risk! If only I had found out the name of the neighbours insurance company...
