Good Points

Can be opened with just £1
No credit facilities, so perfect for those with a poor credit history


Bad Points

For some it would be the lack of credit or overdraft
Only issues a Visa Electron Debit card


General Comments

I had some issues with my credit worthiness, and so found it very difficult to open a bank account. I read about the Woolwich savings account that gave you a Visa Electron card and went to open one, when the staff in the branch told me that there was an alternative account to the Open Plan one. It is just called the Woolwich Current account, and it just offers a Visa Electron card, standing orders, direct debits and monthly statements. There is no facility to do telephone or online banking, which I must admit would be handy, but it's not that much of a hardship. The best thing I think about the account is the service I have received. I have had the account for just under 1 year now, and the staff both in the branch and on the phone, if I have needed to call them have been excellent. Always friendly and happy to help. My branch is only small and has about 4 staff, but it's in the city centre and I have a direct phone number to the branch, so no overseas call centres for me! And in the branch, there is no big glass partition to shout through, just a counter. Very informal. All in all, a great bank, and one I will be staying with for as long as they will have me!
