Clutches cost more than a BMW to change
Suspension needs constant attention usual weak Ford bushes still can't get it right since 1980s Fords

General Comments

I'll never ever buy another Ford Mondeo, Skoda are far better.I've owned over 20 Fords since my Capri days and during my 25 years as a taxi driver have I ever bought such a load of rubish ever!
Car has had 3 clutches, 1 fuel pump, 1 rear pump, 1 set of injectors £800!, 3 starter motors, 1 alternator. I actually spent from Jan 04 to Dec 04 over £4,200. The car is on 146,000 which for a taxi of 4 years is low!!! My old transit had 34,500 miles when I sold it still going strong second hand value, very poor resale, even on private cars what ever happened to quality and repair costs at Ford?

There is a known problem with this engine in that the metal dust from the fly wheel damages the starter motor replacing the starter motor is not the answer it is recommended that the gearbox and fly wheel housing is removed and cleaned and in some cases the clutch and flywheel assembly has to be replaced as well costing >£1500 a very big job. Ford are aware of the problem but choose to do nothing about it because the failure occurs at about 70000 to 80000 miles outside any warranty cover.

Couldn't agree more with Peterswansea. As a fellow taxi driver I too am suffering from Fords shortcomings. Ask any Mondeo driving taxi driver ,clutches, flywheels, fuel pumps, suspension they are just not up to the job.
