General Comments

I rang Devitt Motorcycle Insurance on behalf of someone to update a policy, and I had the policy in front of me. I was told due to company policy they were unable to deal with the update, as the policy holder must ring. They would not answer a simple query because I was not the policy holder. This is totally unacceptable. The policyholder tried to ring at 7.15pm (note - they advertise that they are open until 8.00pm), and no one could deal with the update. What are you supposed to do? The policy holder has since cancelled the policy, and although this has resulted in a loss of finance to go to another very well known insurer and be treated in a polite manner, and they were extremely helpful and a pleasure. There are lessons to be learned at Devitt. I have written to Devitt with my concerns, but of course I have not had a reply. Why did I expect one?

    I think you'll find this is an Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulation, imposed since they began to regulate General Insurance in 2005. Shouldn't blame poor old Devitt for that one....
