Accurate; Nice heft; just enough power
Weak barrel/magazine latch
This is a fun gun, no doubt about it. I am usually leery of CO2 guns, and I bought this Daisy Powerline 617x on a whim, probably because it looked like a Beretta.
At first heft I was pleased that the gun had some weight to it. On further inspection I realized this was due to the metal frame and inner workings of the gun, which may be cheap metal, but are at least better than plastic.
I was also pleased when shooting the gun - it is remarkably accurate. It's a "compromise" gun, designed for both BB's and pellets, and here the compromise wins on the side of pellets, which are much more accurate than BB's. Possibly because they fit better into the barrel, pellets also penetrate better - a surprise to be sure. (I'm using Daisy pointed pellets)
The real surprise came when I discovered that - JOY! - there is little, if any CO2 leakage. I have kept the CO2 cannister in for several weeks at a time with no drop in power. (I have Gamo and Crosman CO2 pistols that lose all their charge overnight!) This is a real plus.
The gun is fairly powerful, but not enough for hunting. It's pretty economical to operate and gets at least 50 shots per CO2 cannister.
At $42.50 from D&R Sports plus S and H, it's a very good value.
