General Comments
James Joyce's, Dubliners is a collection of short stories that are very accessible.
It is very simply written, and Joyce takes you on lots of little journeys into the lives of various Dubliners, and it appears to be saying things along the way about the Irish nation and the psyche of its people.
There is a lot of humour and sadness in these stories, and they are a very gripping read. It is a classic of modern short story writing in fact, with so much atmosphere and suggestion, and the style has been much copied by other writers.
The last story is The Dead, which is probably the most famous, and it contains some of Joyce's most beautiful naturalistic writing.
