The Strawbury Duck is a lovely pub situated right next to the Entwistle train station and is a haven for ramblers walking in the nearby Lancashire hills. It's in a beautiful, quiet scenic location and is a lovely country pub with lots of tiny nooks and crannies and a friendly staff.

We went in for a Sunday lunch and found a pub full of people and a sign stating that the waiting time for food was 45 minutes. As we were in no rush we were quite happy to get a drink - there's loads of guest Real Ales to choose from - and have a leisurely afternoon.

The menu was a combination of traditional British and pub dishes to the slightly more gourmet using very British ingredients, much like you would expect from any decent gastropub. Along with fish and chips and sausage and mash you could get chicken stuffed with mozarella and herbs, or duck in cherries and apples. I opted for a beef hot pot type dish that came in a cask ale gravy and was topped with a giant herby dumpling. The sides included a choice of chips or new potatoes and salad or veg. The beef was lovely and tender and they served me enough new potatoes to feed an army. My other half went for traditional sausage and mash and was served a very homemade looking (if it wasn't made in the kitchen it came from a local farm) giant sausage that was about as big as 4 normal sausages and he said it was magnificent.

Had we had room for dessert there was a specials board with about 10 different items to choose from including a range of ice creams, puddings, crumbles and cakes that all looked beautiful.

It was a lovely meal and I'm sure we'll be back when the weather warms up enough to do some walking.
