Bad Points

The entertainment and lack of care and poor travel arrangements on disembarkation

General Comments

Princess Cruises, Grand Princess was my husbands and my first cruise. We were very conscious that the ship was completely full-no upgrades or even replacements for faulty cabins (we heard of raw sewage in one!) Never the less on balance the service was good the food varied (although we normally ate in the 24 hour buffet). My husband fractured his ankle on Day three which limited what we could do but the medical facilities were excellent and the help for him on the excursions or when leaving the boat indepedently was good so we enjoyed the excellent itinerary. Logistics for getting nearly 3000 people off the ship was very well handled during excursions.. The lounges and pools etc.were lovely although the spa staff coud be a bit pushy. The entertainment struck us as somewhat lowest common denominator but was well presented except for the inhouse channel which was very American shopping style-not surprising as we had a majority of middle Americans for many of whom it appeared to be their first trip outside the USA (including 400 kids who were no problem at all). However disembarkation was a nightmare largely due to Carnival UK who arranged our travel and the Italian port arrangements at Venice which required us to physicaly shift and check our luggage without trolleys or porters and then go back to the ship to wait all day until we could be taken to the airport for the last flight of the day out. I had requested help as I am disabled as was my husband. However no help at all was forthcoming until we reached the BA check in desk at Marco Polo. Would we cruise again?-Yes but probably on a smaller ship and probably not Carnival lines particularly with regard to arangements to get to and from the cruise.
