Daily disposable use is amazingly hassle-free.
Very light and comfortable in the eye.
Are laser cut - means a smooth rounded edge.
Cost more than fortnightly/monthly lenses.
Feel tight on the eye after a full days wear.
Can be difficult to remove due to this tightness.
Can't sleep in them - very bad if you do.
I have worn Focus Dailies lenses every day for about two years and overall I have been happy with them. They are very light and comfortable to wear (because they are so small/thin), and are also easy to put in your eye as a result of this. There is no sensation of an 'edge' of the lens on the eye due to the rounded smooth cut given by the laser cutting process.
I don't agree with people saying they are fragile, as I have never had one break in those two years, and I was actually quite surprised at how tough they are given they are mostly water. I did however notice the same problem that others have mentioned after a day's wear (12hrs+) in that the eye can feel swollen and the lens feel tight on the eye; this in turn means the lens can be difficult to remove and often needed a few goes and some eye drops.
This was not a major problem and did not happen all the time but was definitely an issue after a long day. My optometrist told me this is because the Focus Dailies are not very permeable to oxygen (the cornea gets oxygen from the air), and as a result the eye swells slightly after a long period of wear.
It is very bad to sleep in these lenses for this reason - I did once and the next day I had clouded vision and sore eyes for ages after I finally managed to remove the lenses which was extremely difficult. It was as a result of this information that I have changed to Acuvue Advance (fortnightly lenses), which apparently are the most oxygen permeable lenses, and consequently I have found no problem at all with extended wear (even overnight a couple of times), and the lenses just slide easily off the eye at the end of the day without any feeling of tightness - I am not 100 percent sure about the Acuvue lenses though as they are not as comfortable and the edges seem quite sharp - I am slightly aware of an edge resting on my eye.
It is also possible that the Focus Dailies were not quite right for the shape of my eye, because I know someone who uses them all day every day and has never had any problems at all. I think contacts will be different for everyone based on the differing shapes of peoples eyeballs and whether or not they have dry eyes etc.
Overall I think these are great lenses for around 8hrs a day ideally, or to put on at night when going clubbing etc, and to be honest you can't really beat the convenience of the daily disposable lens.
