Grip on wet corners (doesn't feel safe)
Bought my X Stream Citi Hoppa from ebay (Europa trading) for a bargain 350 pounds + 160 pounds delivery + 20 pounds fully built + credit card payment 2.5% = 543 pounds. Not too bad price for a brand new 125 scooter! Anyway, when it was delivered I only needed to assemble the mirrors which took 2 minutes, I phoned up Europa and they sent me my registration documents, number plate and tax disk within 2 days. Then fixed the plate, tax disc and 'L' plates, another 15 minutes. I would recommend running in the scooter at no more than 35mph and 400-500 miles, when it starts up its quite load, revs quite high at first, will eventually calm down once you put the miles in. When you start riding it for the first time like any other scooter you can't just gently increase the speed by pulling the throttle slowly, with this scooter I've noticed there are 3 peaks of power, the first is pulling the throttle very slightly (when pulling out of the drive, going down your road slowly), this cruises at about 15mph and about 3000rpm (decreases after running in) , now to go faster you need to give the throttle a nice rev and stick with it about 4000rpm (this takes getting used to), this will now have some leverage and can go from anything from 20-30mph, pulling slightly harder can get you up to 35mph, rev a bit higher and you reach the last stages in which the scooter cruises very nicely at 40mph - 55mph (this is on straight roads), you get used to the scooter and so changing between stages comes naturally after a week or 2 (if you quickly accelerate to say 30mph you can release the throttle and pull back lighter and still cruise at 30mph but at lower revs , obvious really). On petrol consumption I'm averaging about 75-80 miles on 3.5 litres of fuel which isn't that bad, I always top it up when the gauge goes to red (tank is 4.5 litres), only costs 3pounds max, which isn't bad at all !! All the body work is very nice and tidy, nothing loose at all, good colour and style. The handling is very good, responsive, good turning circle, country lane u-turns are no problem. There's reasonable storage as well, the front compartments are small, they can fit a pair of normal gloves (not massive motorbike ones) or some cloth or you mobile and wallet, nothing more. The under seat storage can fit I guess up to a size medium helmet (my xl doesn't fit), I just store some plastic bags, a massive chain lock in there but have carried my lock food and a jumper in there as well. The rack at the back needs a plate fitted to have a top box if you need one, a 1.5metre chain lock 11.5mm thick only just fits through the front wheel, there are very small gaps but just enough, maybe a disk lock is better used. The cheap motorbike cover from Argos (14.99) covers the scooter all over and works wonders. Ok a few negatives, after about half a week of riding, in some rainy conditions, the pipe leading to the exhaust started to have surface rust, sanded this off and resprayed with non rust paint and it's all fine now. I'm not too keen on the grip when turning on wet corners; I usually decelerate to 25mph and keep as straight as possible just to make sure, (this is only on wet corners). Its slightly smaller than some other 125 scooters but still good, I'm over 6ft and end up slitting on the back seat with my legs out fairly straight, 6ft 3 and taller this scooter will look way to small for you.
