Good Points

Smooth powerful - the most comfortable car I've ever driven

Bad Points

Also the most expensive to maintain and the most unreliable

General Comments

I am a Citroen fan. Or I was. My dream was to own a DS or CX...but I can't afford to keep throwing money at this 2,2 HDi SX that's only 4 years old and 82,000 miles. Problems with the radio reception on AM, a CD player that decides which CDs it would like to play and which it wouldn't, in a very Gallic way, constantly squeaking brakes, two broken doorhandles, a handbrake that doesn't hold it on hills, it's gone through more headlamp bulbs than any other car I've owned in 17 years. And to change them yourself is a painful and bloody experience. Who drives to a main dealer to get a headlamp bulb changed? (and it even took THEM 45 minutes!!) Did I mention the leaking hydraulics and the CV joint problems, or the fact that the aircon is only working 50% and blows hot air out one side no matter what the temp outside. I've got the particulate filter to replace right now as well as a suspension pipe, a CV joint, a broken taillight - my fault, a new heater activator for the climate control and something else that I can't remember cos I'm so angry. And why didn't they put a back wiper on it for heaven's sake - it's a hatchback. Whoever said you need a sense of humour to drive a Citroen wasn't joking. Give me Japanese reliability next time please...Vive l'Orient!!!

Citroen=Lemon, never forget this, the C5 is a brilliant drive on the motorway, BUT only if you are prepared for massive service costs, continually squealing brakes and poor build quality, I now need my Diesel additive topped up, Citroen are trying to rip me off by stating i need a new particulate filter and ECU, just for the additive they want to charge me £199. recent research suggest they are lying. I will never buy Citroen again.

Good to hear this...since I posted I have now sold (got rid of) the Citroen...it's still the smoothest riding car I have ever owned, but after it broke down 4 times in the space of a week, went to 2 different Citroen dealers on 3 occasions, none of whom were able to find out what was the problem, and even the AA man was baffled I lost the head. That week cost me the guts of £300, and remember this was a 4 year old car with 85,000 miles that was well looked after and regularly maintained at a Citroen dealer (at great expense). It still needed a particulate filter (could have cost anything up to £500) and had a leaky suspension pipe (name your price) so I sold it to the trade (and took an extra financial hit in the process) cos I couldn't honestly face selling it to anyone ...never want to see it again. Saying that when I came to change it came to a decision between a Renault Grand Scenic (looks stylish but will probably give lots of problems) and a Mazda 5 (looks stylish and probably won't...) and I went for...the Renault because I could get shot of that other Gallic disaster more quickly by taking it and here I am. But funnily the Renault dealer was trying to sell me the new Euro IV G Scenic..."cos it has a particulate filter...are you familiar with particulate filters?" I didn't buy that one but he doesn't know what a lucky escape he had!!!!
