Villa was cheap because of time of year. It was also huge and could easily have accomodated another couple which would make it even cheaper if you were happy to share. The garden was huge and pleasant.
Pool was freezing, though probably expected in October. Once it rained, the sewage backed up into the villa making a terrible smell. Bedding was poor, thin and not cleaned very well initially. TV poor, but usual? Kitchen a bit shabby. Washing machine bearings had gone adn it made a terrible noise. Was miles away from anything nice to look at and a couple of miles up a dirt track road, but this would probably be ok if you didn't care ie the weather was hot enough for you to just laze around the pool.
All-in-all, we thought James Villas had represented the villa adequately and were not deceitful in any way. The villa was quite a way from shops and there was no way you could walk to a bar or restaurant, although none of this was mentioned in the description (we didn't ask either). The villa itself was huge and basically furnished, not 'plush' as we'd expected. The kitchen had seen better days, but again, was adequate although we had to clean everything before we used it. The garden area was pretty and well kept and the pool was immaculately kept, with a man coming each morning to treat it and skim off any fallen leaves etc. We had a maid come about three times to clean and change bedding and towels. The owner of the villa also visited and gave us a bottle of wine. The rep from James Villas was very helpful; giving us maps and information about the local area and places to visit. Really, we couldn't fault it although we wouldn't go back to the same villa or area purely because the area (Armacoa da Pera) was dull, 'tower blockish' and dirty.
