The long awaited Mario Kart DS is here, but you may ask is it actually worth spending your 25 quid on? Well, I personally have really enjoyed careering around the Mario Kart tracks over Christmas, and here is why...
Mario Kart DS boasts excellent graphics for the platform, and as well as all the great new circuits featured on the game, many of your old favourites from the earlier Nintendo consoles, such as the Super Nintendo and then slightly later the N64 and Gameboy Advance, and even tracks from the GameCube are included. All your favourite characters from the previous games, such as Mario, Luigi and Donkey Kong etc. are available to start with, and then as you progress through the game more are unlocked, such as R.O.B, Daisy and Waluigi, and that's not all... You can unlock a new class of racing... 150cc mirror is also available as soon as you have completed the first 3. The game also offers battles and missions, but in my opinion one of the best features of Mario Kart DS would be the online play, because as soon as you think you kick butt on it, some kid in Japan puts you in your place.
Bad Points
Like all games, Mario Kart has its flaws, and after a while of playing, it does get boring, and there just don't seem to be quite as many new circuits as you may have hoped, but as long as you've got a buddy with a DS, you'll begin to enjoy it again.
General Comments
Overall, Mario Kart DS is a pretty good game, and to start with it is extremely addictive, but as soon as you have unlocked all the game modes, all the characters, and perfected your logo it feels a little pointless to play on your own, but as soon as you get a real live opponent the competitive spirit between you will bring the thrill back into Mario Kart DS.
