Good Points

Good looks. Excellent sound quality, with clear bass and pretty good isolation from background noise. Very comfortable to wear for an extended period.

Bad Points

Very fragile. Treble end not as clear as the bass, which might be a problem for some styles of music. Needs volume set higher than with other headphones, at least with iPod.

General Comments

I've had two pairs of the Sony MDR-EX71SLB headphones in the last nine months, and at first I was totally in awe of the sound quality - the best in-ear phones I've ever heard. But, both pairs suddenly failed in one earpiece while listening - one after 3 months and the other after 6. The insulating sleeve on one pair also started to come off before they failed (not on the earpiece that failed, so it wasn't the cause of failure).

They are excellent earphones for sitting in one place but far too fragile for carrying around and using in the street. That's what I need, thus the low value for money and overall rating.
