Good Points

This car has excellent economy. On average I get 53 mi/gl, and have access to power too, when I need it and that is at moterway speeds. Now you can have your cake and eat it. Power and economy wow!

Bad Points

I do have a couple of bad points to add about my VW Golf GTI TDI 150 mark IV.

1st the gear changing could be better. When you change the gears 1st to 2nd and some times 3rd at quick speed the gears do give resistance when changing. If I change gears at a leisurely pass then the gear change is 'slick'. It's a pity as the car is built to be driven hard but VW just got the gearing set-up wrong.

2nd I have had the car for just over 3years and my 'intercooler oil seals' need changing. For a car issued in 02, I think this is rather poor show from VW.

3rd If you get the same model I have, make certain you get crouse-contral. I wish I had it on my car, contemplating an after market fit but likely to set me back £400.

4th Additionally the VW service from main dealers is poor. I got really annoyed with my last VW dealers, that are just down the road from me. I now use a VW dealer 30 miles from my home, as they seam to be better. I think it is a bit of a lottery with main service dealers. I think all I can say is cross your fingers and hope you get one that is good and close to your home.

General Comments

VW Golf GTI TDI 150 mark IV.

All that said, I would still recommend the car to any body, although the new Audi A4 is a real competitor at this level.

If I now had to make the same choose I probably would have waited 6 months and got the new Audi 2.0 DSG TDI 140 BHP ( a little less power them my car), but the Audi is new and I don't know how green the grass is in Audi land, so take this recommendation for what it is.
