Virtually none, in my humble opinion. Telewest only brought grief to me for 1 year. I have switched to BT now, and I am sorry I did not do it from the very start.
Telewest never kept their promises to me. Strangely, I had high charges on my phone bill.
I will only mention one of the very frustrating problems that Telewest gave me.
For the first 2 months of my service (internet + phone line) it went reasonably smooth. Then, all of a sudden they stopped sending me fully itemized bills (I have obviously requested those from the start and received them only at first).
I enquired about that and checked with their representatives MANY times in 7-8 months. They were only too happy to rectify the problem, FROM THE FOLLOWING BILL ONWARDS.
That means, that I paid my bills in full without having the rightful possibility to check the calls I have made. On those bills, only about 30% of the calls I made would show up (a partially itemized bill).
So, whatever representative happened to answer my call in all those MANY different instances, they ALL promised I would get only itemized bills from then on, as I said, and that I would get a 'screen print copy' - basically a PHOTOCOPY of the list of the calls I made in that particular period, from THEIR computer! Absurd, but I have accepted. Did I receive them? No. In the meantime, another month would fly past, and I would get my NEXT bill. Was that itemized as the representatives ASSURED me a month before? You bet it wasn't.
Unfortunately I cannot go into every painful detail, but I think it is sufficient to say that this situation just repeated itself over and over for about 7 stupid months.
You know those times in which you have a problem and may be so taken by other ones that you do not realize how long it's been since you had the first one?
Long story short, I cancelled my service with them (while signing up) with BT, I have received what I thought was my final bill only about 7 weeks later!
I paid, and after a couple of weeks an UPDATED bill showed up, again only partial itemized calls.
As I was not getting any service from the anymore, I have finally got very angry and I wrote a letter to their head office. The guy there apologized etc., and sent me a letter with the final amount left to pay.
I paid again... and after 3 weeks ANOTHER stupid 'updated' bill came along. Again it only showed a couple of calls I made 3 months EARLIER (you read right) and said something like 'total cost of calls £10'.
At this point I just ignored them. They did not write to me about that bill again, as if they understood that I understood (sounds like a conspiracy).
Anyway... I was ALWAYS left with the feeling that they charged money for calls I had not made.
I could not check the calls, so I don't see what would have stopped them from doing just that.
The bills were unusually costly, and since I have switched to BT there is a MARKED difference (about one THIRD of the cost of calls overall, and I did not really change my phoning habits much).
Strangely enough, I remember of someone else that had a similar situation with Telewest.
