Good Points

What attracted me to the recorder was the (previously) good name of Philips. I was purchasing the recorder as a Christmas present, and took the recommendation of the sales assistant.

Bad Points

Almost identical to many of the other reports - this machine has a mind of its own!
The clock is unable to keep accurate time
Whilst recording the machine will switch off at will
Even when you beat all of the odds and get the machine to record, you record again on the same disc at your peril. For reasons so far unexplained the machine will then be unable to read what has been recorded

General Comments

If you want a machine to record as programmed, and be able to play them back... do not buy the Philips DVD-R610 DVD recorder. A total waste of money, and a really rotten Christmas present!!

JEH62.......I wonder how many of the other reviews you read before buying the machine as they span over a year and all give it virtually the thumbs-down. I know that if I had read so many negative reports, I'd have steered well clear of it. I really do sympathise with you because you could be someone who's not 'loaded' - shall we say - and a Christmas treat as well. Philips used to be a brand one could have confidence in and buy on name alone. Sadly, that seems to be becoming history with some of their products. I do hope you can find a suitable and reliable replacement.
