Making a claim, scandalous excess charges!

General Comments

I submitted ONE travel ins. claim to Primary for £300 for my family of four, due to relocation away from hurricane 'Wilma' in Florida and they deducted FOUR amounts of £50 excess, even for my children aged 9 & 10.I ended up with £100.
One claim should attract one amount of excess, not four!
Had I had four children,I would have received nothing!
Never again will I use this company.

Surely then you must have submitted a claim based upon all 4 people in your party (family)?

I assume you were claiming for accommodation and/or extra travelling costs away from the area? If so, why did you not just submit one claim in your own name, which would have covered the hotel room (or other accommodation) and the travel? They could then have shared that with you and you would only then have paid one excess.

Remember, every claim means that future customers have to pick up the bill. Four claims = four excess payments. If you had, say money and possessions stolen which fall under different categories of the cover and therefore = two claims, would you still only have expected to pay one excess?

With any insurance, the onus lies with the policy holder to read their terms and conditions before committing to any contract. Having looked at the policy details of Primary Travel Insurance, there is an option to have the excess charges waivered at a very small additional cost (which is much cheaper then other travel insurances without the excess waivered!!!). If you are not prepared to pay the excess then take out the appropriate insurance where this will not have to be paid.
