Arduous account cancellation process
Persistent, shameless billing of ex-customers
We have been unlucky enough to contract with OneandOne in the past. This has become an expensive and time-consuming burden that we regret and do not wish on anyone.
OneandOne (also trading as 1&1 Internet Limited) created a very difficult-to-follow account cancellation procedure. We have persevered with their complicated cancellation process and received confirmation that our cancellation has been actioned at their end. We have previously written to OneandOne to confirm that we do not wish to have any contractual relationship with their company what-so-ever, but they have continued to charge our account again.
Years after the cancellation has been confirmed, we have been billed again in respect of the cancelled account and threatened with court action.
1&1 appear to rely on the fact that faced with the threat of legal action, most or at least some ex-clients will prefer to settle small bills, rather then spend the time required to dig old correspondence that they may no longer have. It is sad to see companies such as 1&1 get away with this practice, and hopefully the word will get around so people are aware of the way OneandOne conduct their business.
There are many decent hosting and domain registration companies out there that do not force them to remain customers against their will.
