Can be fiddly to use the first time but becomes easy.
After placing an order for the longer MkIII, I ended up receiving the Hunter Carbine after the last of the full lengths developed a fault. All I can say is I'm glad that was the case!
I ordered a full kit from The Airgun Centre in Essex which consisted of the rifle, an AGS 3-9x40 Mil-Dot scope, a tin of AA pellets, and a full test and tune.
After finally getting into the packaging, I was greeted with what is perhaps the most stunning looking springer I've ever seen. It really is shotgun quality in an air rifle.
The anti-beartrap safety and the actual trigger safety proved to be a little tricky to use at first but I later found that I hadn't cocked it fully. For anyone thinking about purchasing, keep pulling the underlever until the safety button pops out.
According to the test certificate, the gun generates around 11.7 ft/lbs (average over 10 shots) using Air Arms field target pellets. This is definitely backed up by shooting at several varying targets and seeing phenominal penetration just using normal roundhead pellets. By using pointed or the Prometheus air bullets, the penetration is likely to be even better but may push the power over the legal limit.
The barrel is aparently made by Lothar Walther and is a fully shrouded affair with an internal silencer. Although there is quite a hearty bang, there is no "twang" from the mainspring but hunters could still do with an external silencer too.
Accuracy though is spot on. Very tight groupings out to at least 35 yards could probably be even better if the human and sight error was corrected.
I would happily recommend this rifle to any adult but due to the weight and recoil, may be unsuitable for some youngsters. I know many people have complained about the weight, but it does help stabilise the whole thing and feels very reassuring.
