Guama, Brisas Sierra Mar Los Galeones Review

I just returned from Brisas Sierra Mar, in Santiago de Cuba. My trip was AWESOME. The resort is the perfect place to just get away and relax. The weather was perfect. Every day sunshine, every evening clear star filled skies. Tons to do or nothing if that is what you so chose. Plenty to eat and drink. And plenty of friendly, helpful staff. I had a sea view room on the two hundred level and it had the most fabulous view. We could leave the balcony door open and there was not infestation of bugs and no loud disturbances. I would definitely return.

Bad points, not many. Just the airline wasn't that great. Be prepared to wait. The trip to the resort is sort of long, but scenic. And if you are picky about having different things to eat every day, then that could be an issue for you. But there is plenty of food. And when in town make sure to watch out for the huslters. Always hold onto your safe key and your beach towels or you will be charged.

Brisas Sierra Mar Los Galeones , definitely the place to try. And if you are expecting the Ritz Carlton, don't. The rooms are clean, spacious and bug free, but remeber your in Cuba, not Toronto or some other North American Hotel. But if you are looking for a party scene, or a really young crowd, this may be the wrong place for you. Things to try include the horseback riding(awesome). The mud bath was a wonderful, relaxing experience. The beach cafe has pizzas and burgers at lunch, get there early , the pizzas go fast. The pool cafe has grilled cheese and fries, they also have potato balls, they are delicious. The trip in to town is enlightening and a great opportunity to shop. There are great water and snorkling excursions. Make sure to bring money for these. Bring tips for the staff they really need and deserve it. The tips don't have to be huge, they appreciate anything. Also bring little things like pens, and pencils and little toys for the children and candy makes you a hero. They also appreciate any clothes that you can spare (lightly used). Leave what you can(i.e soap and cream and toothpaste). It was a great time. I would definitely go back, we are already planning our next trip.

  I am just back from Brisas Sierra Mar and concur with this review. I would add that it is worth taking walks off the resort (very safe) to find small villages. Bring children's clothing, running shoes (a good pair of adult shoes costs the equivalent of $60 convertible pescos which is at least two month's salary for most Cubans). Bed linen is also in short supply so if you can, bring some. Local musicians on acoustic instruments is a real treat. This is a little piece of heaven to be enjoyed if you can overlook the less than luxurious accommodations.
