Good Points

Accurate, inexpensive, and made of good materials

Bad Points

Inconsistent assembly, but easily correctable by owner.

General Comments

My Daisy 747 wanted to shoot well but was hampered by the trigger. Daisy says it should adjust down to 1lb, but mine would only go to 56oz. Quick and easy dis-assembly showed the mechanism to be sturdy, well designed and easy to work on.

The problem turned out to be a dry and misaligned sear, which was easy to correct. The mainspring tensions the sear halves, but the spring seats were so tight that the spring was holding the sear out of proper alignment. A few seconds with a file and the spring could rotate easily, and this allowed the parts to find their alignment after assembly. Some graphite grease on the sear, and the trigger is now down to 21oz.

Some users apparently object to working on their guns, but I find this unreasonable. Does your car ever need maintenance? Of course... so do your guns. Being afraid to open this 747 up and tinker with the insides means that you will likely never experience all the good designed into it.

Sure, you really SHOULDN'T need to do this, but the manufacturers have real trouble finding and paying people to do the critical little adjustments on things. I actually like an inexpensive but well designed machine that needs just a little TLC to become something truly masterful.

I also installed a trigger stop to limit the over-travel to a few thousandths beyond sear release. This has transformed the gun into a real tack driver, and possibles are... well, possible now!

Being a pneumatic design, this gun WILL need to be lubed and its' seals replaced every now and then. This is normal and in no way a problem unless you want to shoot this gun forever without maintenance.

I really like the 747, and I recommend it highly for those looking for an inexpensive and accurate air pistol.

Just added the left grip panel from the left hand grips so mine now is ambidextrous. Feels better to me than the dedicated target thumb rest.

Called Daisy and for $8.50 + $3.00 shipping they were in the Mail. Also got a spare seal set for $4.50 while I was getting parts.

Gun is past 650 shots now and functioning flawlessly. Still very happy with it.

I found this review helpful because he told me this air gun could be worked on by the owner and minor repairs and adjustments made. I love to tinker with my guns and this was good to know.
