Cheap and cheerful, store staff are helpful when you can find them.
Poor customer service when things go wrong, dodgy home delivery service
I've used IKEA to furnish my home office and spare room, so purchases include 2 beds, 2 mattresses, chest of drawers, desk, chair book case and hundreds of odd throws, boxes, bathroom bits etc.
With the products you get basically what you pay for. The furniture (when I finally managed to assemble it!!) is sturdy and attractive, the bits and pieces vary, with good quality soft furnishings and bargain kitchenware, but also one or two quite useless/dodgy items purchased along the way.
When buying heavy items, I've usually managed to find a member of staff to help load up the trolley, though it has meant waiting around at times.
The home delivery service is next to useless - the only time I used it, the delivery people damaged the furniture, and it took a lot of persuading and contact with IKEA Head office to get a refund of the delivery charge (because apparently the delivery company doesn't belong to IKEA... although they issue IKEA receipts!).
Customer Services are slow at the best of times, and the store is much less helpful when things go wrong, than they are before you make a purchase.
But overall, despite my niggles, I keep going back, visiting the restaurant/bargain basement/food store along the way, and will probably remain a customer for basic furniture for the foreseeable future.
