Good Points

Good value for money. Very accurate once I've modified the trigger. A capable rifle for hunting varmint and small game.

Bad Points

Bad trigger that will make you shoot all over the place if you don't modify it.
Noisy vibration.

General Comments

When I started looking for an air rifle, I had the following criteria for selecting an air rifle:
1. Accuracy
2. +- 1000 Ft/sec
3. Economical

Living in South Africa makes it expensive for the average citizen to buy a precharge rifle. The Gamo CF-30 got my attention, as it is well finished and fitted into my budget. The fixed barrel and under-lever cocking system adds to consistent performance. As can be expected, the harsh negative recoil results in a noisy vibration, that in my opinion is negligible. The recoil pad adds to the rifles handsome looks, and the long stock enables a larger person to handle the rifle comfortably. At first I found the accuracy to be lacking and inconsistent due to the considerable weight that was necessary to pull the trigger. I was unable to adjust it sufficiently with the adjustment screw provided, and replaced it with a longer one. One needs to be careful when adjusting the trigger, as I found that I could not adjust it to less that +- 2Kg of pulling weight. Less than this affects the safety mechanism, rendering the rifle unsafe as it will discharge at its own will. This adjustment improved the accuracy considerably. From my starting group of 65mm to my best of 25mm at 25 yards. The CF-30 seems to prefer 7gr Diablo match grade pellets, but for hunting I use 10.5gr Crosman Premier pellets, as they provide adequate penetration to reach the vital organs of hare size small game.

The Gamo is a very good economical all-rounder that will give you lots of fun on the shooting range, and is capable of bringing the game home after the hunt.

HI HJ De Villers. I also stay in South Africa and I also just recently purchased a gamo, I bought the CFX though, it too has a pretty stiff trigger..... where can I find a longer screw to modify my trigger?

Derek Take out the existing screw and take it to your local nut and bolt shop or gunsmith. I live in Centurion and got mine from "Acorn fasteners", it cost me about 50c for a stainless steel one.
