Good Points

Quality ingredients from benchmark fragrance house. Nice Oriental style packaging. It has become a lot more affordably priced.


Bad Points

Rather heady and cloying at times.


General Comments

Samsara, by Jean Paul Guerlain 1989, has definitely been around a while but I have rediscovered it and sometimes, oldies can be goodies. Even though I usually detest sweet, heavy and cloying type scents, I was looking for something suitable for my Mother for a Christmas present, as she loves anything with a reasonable amount of real sandlewood and musk. I don't normally test these types of perfumes on my skin, as I have learnt from past experience that this usually leads to hours of misery and regret. Anyway, I did this time allow the assistant to spray my wrist and was I surprised to find that the dry-down was most appealing to me, balancing out the huge Jasmine burst when first sprayed. The lovely creamy Amber and Musk notes stood up in harmony with a touch of Citrus and Rose that was quite soothing. I soon returned to the store hoping no-one would notice, and... purchased a 100ml bottle for myself as well as one for Mum. To top it off, I think, due to its outdated vibe it was really reasonably priced. Much cheaper than I remember it being. Also great value considering the small amount needed, and the long lasting properties this perfume has. This purchase has been a happy one.
