Fast, loose, easy to paddle
A bit heavy to pop airs
My first Mccoy was a single fin nugget that I bought 4 years ago because I was feeling a bit stale in the water and I needed a bit of variety. I now have a 7'2 gun and a 6'4 nugget (both thrusters).
I started surfing in the 80's and as a gromet I looked up to power surfers like TC, Crammey and kong. The big moves back then were vertical re-entries, round house cut backs and floaters. And it was these moves that I cut my teeth on and developed.
As surfing evolved to the air the boards got thinner and lighter and I, along with the rest of the sheep, thought that riding these boards would push me into the air.
Riding Mccoys I'm surfing better now than I ever have. I've gone back to my roots as a rail to rail, round house and floater surfer - realising that this is what surfing has always been for me.
If you want a board that is as fast (or even faster) that any other short board on the market, is loose (can be surfed vertically and rail to rail) and stable in the tube or floating, the Nugget is your board.
I still have a few conteperary boards for certain conditions (a fish and short board) but I now maily ride Mccoy!
