CHINGS's review of Epson RX600

“I bought an Epson RX600 multifunction printer in...”

Good Points
None

Bad Points
LCD self destroyed in just over one year.
Uses too much ink.
Too slow.

General Comments
I bought an Epson RX600 multifunction printer in August 2004 as it had an attractive look and good review/testing reports.

Firstly, the ink disappeared so quickly, even when you do not print, they dry quickly. Assuming you do no printing at all, your ink would completely run out within three months, and the cartridges are expensive (the wholesale price of the whole set of 6 cartridges costs about $60.00 in Costco or Sams Club).

The next problem is the slow speed. If you wait half a minute and the printer seems sleepy and you click to print one more time, then it would cause a jam in the software and the printer would be locked. To rectify this problem, you have to go to the Control Panel of your computer and click on the printer and delete all the print jobs one by one before the printer can function again.

The fatal problem was that the LCD had gone completely about one month ago (just over one year since the date of purchase). As the warranty is only good for one year, Epson suggested that I contact one of their authorized repair shops. This morning, I finally got a reply from one of their 'contractors'. It was surprisingly expensive. Only the part (the LCD) would cost $170.00.

Any testing results recommending the purchase of this Epson model are as fake as those recommendations made by those 'artificial' car magazines these days.

Jmillikin's Response to CHINGS's Review

My LCD screen also has gone blank. I have had the printer 13 months. Bought in 01/03/05. Apparently this model has some kind of defect, and Epson is unwilling to acknowledge it.
