Huge storage capacity. Can record 2 programmes at once AND watch a third channel. Can rewind and pause live TV. Very quiet operation (no fan). Very simple to set programme recordings.
Bad Points
Early software versions didn't support upgrading over the air (i.e. automatically) so you had to connect to a PC to upgrade the software. There were some software problems recently with BBC Intercative services causing the box to reboot constantly. This was sorted very quickly by the BBC changing their interactive service, and the manufacturers issuing a software upgrade within 2 days.
General Comments
The Topfield TF5800 PVR will change the way you watch TV! You can look at a list of programmes for the week ahead on screen, press a button and the box will record that programme - it's as simple as that. The ability to record two channels at once, or playback a recording while recording another channel is fantastic. Also, you can start watching a recording before it's finished.
If you're really techie, there are extra little facilities you can download from the web to add new features, or you can even write your own! You can also download recordings to your PC to save to DVD if you so wish.
This box has changed the way we watch TV, as now, we look what's on, record it, then choose when to watch it - fantastic. Oh, and the recording quality is indistinguishable from the original, and it records the subtitles to if you want them.
