Cheap, will pay vet fees directly.

Will not pay out on illness from non essential operation.
General Comments
Had my cat spayed (which I paid for) but the wound got infected so took her to vets to get it looked at and cleaned up. £250 later the cat's fine but Direct Line wouldn't pay out because 'it was the result of a non essential operation'. I thought I was being a responsible pet owner....

This is inexcusable. You were doing the right thing having your pet spayed. It's better for its overall health (meaning the insurance company would have less risk to cover). All vets recommend spaying. Direct Line Pet Insurance should definitely have paid out for this.
