I have to tell everybody about the terrible experience I had with digital direct, and there is no way that this isn't a 'black and white' problem.
I bought a television from Digital Direct online (which was a bargain). I went through the online checkout (and I'm not a dithering old granny, I'm a web designer), and it gave me a total cost for the television PLUS VAT and P&P, so I pressed confirm, and I thought everything would be fine.
A few days later I was checking my online bank account and noticed that the amount taken out from Digital Direct was more than I had agreed to pay.
Digital Direct had taken an extra £8.62, which although isn't a vast sum of money, it's still MY money which had been taken illegally as I had only given permission for the previous sum. I went to the website and re-did the order up to the last point, just to check the amount, and I was correct.
It's the law that if you are given an amount, including all costs, and given the total, you confirm that amount to be taken from you, a company cannot take more than that, as you have not given permission for it.
I contacted Digital Direct and have still received no answer.
The only way (and I am in the process of this right now) to get the money back is through my bank account.
If you are in this kind of situation contact Trading Standards, who will advise you to contact the company and your credit card/debit company, telling them to put the amount on hold.
