General Comments

The new budget offering from the acclaimed Sony Vaio stable is certainly impressive when it comes to reaching for your wallet. Weighing in at a nimble £900 or therabouts you could find yourself wondering where the catch is.

In truth, there is no catch, but before you buy you should note what you don't get. No infra red port, no floppy drive and no PS2 port. All of these setbacks can be surmounted easily enough by choosing accessories carefully.

If you need an external mouse (and who doesn't?) then go for a USB mouse, now widely available. If you absolutely need a port replicator, then go for a pure USB option, there is no built-in hardware connector for a conventional port replicator.

SUMMARY

In short, the FX101 is exactly what it is - a no frills Celeron 600 powered Sony Vaio laptop. It does exactly what it says on the spec sheet, but with some considerable style and panache.
