Good Points

Responsive steering, good looks, good acceleration

Bad Points

Renault, immobiliser

General Comments

I've loved owning the Renault Megane 1.6 RT Sport, it has good acceleration, looks great, handles well and has a great deal of cabin and boot space. The immobiliser however, drives me crazy. And Renault have screwed me over keys - both went within 6 weeks of each other and replacing them is 100 pounds a time. As you can't switch off the immobiliser without them, you're obliged to pay.

We also had problems with our RT keys and the immobiliser, it cost us £70 for a replacement. Now the tdc chip is acting up and causing similar problems. A large majority of Renault models exhibit the same problems and are becoming notorious for it. Also, my relation owns a 'scenic' which' s doing exactly the same thing. Renault forums everywhere are rife with posts about immobiliser shorts. A shame because the cars performance is okay. Why does everything have to be computerized :-(
