Having had the Honda Jazz now for 7 months, I would like to know very much, how people who say they can get incredible mpg out of the Jazz get it! I certainly cannot! On long runs I get no more than 41mpg, and that's usually going between 70 and 80mph. I have had the car checked for any faults, and of course none were found. It seems to get these figures in Honda's.

I'm not surprised. I cannot get more than 46mpg at 70mph. The 50+ mpg figure is achieved at speeds between 50 and 60mph; I managed 58mpg once but I stuck to about 50mph and used the accelerator and brakes very gently. Even a Honda cannot defy the laws of physics which, all other things being equal, dictates that the air drag encountered is proportional to the square of the vehicle speed. Put another way, a car doing eighty uses up to 60% more fuel than one doing sixty. Every day I am passed by people breaking the speed limit...and burning a huge hole in their wallet as well.
