General Comments

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a weekend break at the Giants Causeway Smugglers Inn in Ireland (4-6 Nov 2005). The food was fantastic, and the location is second to none. Downsides are... We booked this break a month ago, and after initially having to phone the owner due to her overpricing the break and giving no apology or reasonable explanation, we decided to give it a go as the deposit had been paid. When we arrived we were given our key to room 12. The website says all rooms have exceptional views, very true if you like staring at a fire escape for 2 days!!! Other guests we spoke to had booked 1 day previous, and been given better rooms. Obviously, the owner doesn't like to be corrected in her pricing!! As for the staff and apparent trainee hotel manager, truthfully you would expect to get better at an apparent 3 star hotel. 90% of the staff look between 14 and 16 years old, and when checking out the manager couldn't even furnish me with a proper breakdown of my bill!! On the 2nd night there the fire alarm went off at 4am!! No explanation was given by the staff, and it was left to the guests to find out if the hotel was to be evacuated or not!! Very worrying indeed - I think you'll agree. Lovely part of the world though, but check and confirm the prices first, don't accept rooms 11 or 12.
