Bad Points

Underpowered, and poor fuel economy.

General Comments

I bought my Fiat Brava 1.4 SX secondhand for £600 with 62,000 on the clock. It ran badly so I got it serviced. It is still not running properly. Going through shed loads of fuel. Rear wiper does not work. When switched on, the light for the rear de-mister (which also doesn't work) comes on. Engine leaking oil from rocker cover - constant smell of burning oil. Also quite noisy, especially when cold - reminds of a tractor. Replaced the rubbish Fiat stereo with a CD player. To top it all, I checked the previous MOT, which had a mileage of 80 odd thousand on it. I should have stuck with the VW Polo 1.9 diesel!!

OK, your fuel consumption is probably due to the camshaft being worn or some of the rocker arms/camshaft follower are missing. I have worked on a few of these cars, and that seems to be the main problem. You can pick up a set of rockers and a camshaft for the Fiat Brava for about £90 (eBay).

    Hope this helps.
