Good Points

Generally rather nice range of shoes (many of them in real leather, IN as well as OUT).

Bad Points

Very poor customer service

General Comments

I wanted to buy a pair of shoes from the Office shop in Charing Cross. I knew about their annoying habit to MAKE you take the shoe box with you, so as I got to the till I told the sales assistant that I was already carrying a heavy rucksack, and I just wanted the shoes in a plastic bag. He told me that for 'security reasons' they HAD to give me the box. I replied that I did not want it, and what security reason could ever mean that you have to have the shoes in the box, as all the other shoes shops, as far as I am aware, did not feel the need to enforce this measure. Office is just trying to shift the problem of disposing of their rubbish (i.e. shoe boxes) onto their customers. On a previous occasion, the sales assistant told me I could throw the box in the litter bin outside the shop! I refused to be bullied by them, and I left the shop without buying the shoes.

Years ago I had a job in a shoe shop and 'understand' the shoe box rule!

The shop doesn't have sufficient trade waste arrangements, so they want you to take the box away!

Good for you for walking out.

i do understand why they wanted you to take the shoe box with you as i have worked in Barratts shoes and for health and safety regulations, boxes do need to be given to customers AND if you wanted to get a refund on the shoes you WOULD need the box. You were probably just being unreasonable like a few customers i have come across !
