General Comments

The Philips DVD-R610 DVD recorder is a disgrace to the good name of Philips. After a few uses the unit has eaten my DVD and won't return it (it says it is Blocked).

What kind of DVD player/recorder requires a return to depot just to unload a DVD? Answer this one?

The "BLOCKED" message appears when the servo chip in the DVD drive fails, which is the cause of this problem. Unforunately it requires a repair to return it to working condition.

However, if you need to retrieve your DVD disc, there is a way to manually eject a disc from the DVDR-610/05, as follows :-

Disconnect the unit from the mains first.

Turn the DVD recorder upside down and look for the recess underneath the disc tray, it is covered by a white paper label inside the machine. Using a non-metallic pointed object, punch through and remove the paper. Inside you will see a small round white plastic peg. Gently slide this peg sideways and the tray will open.

I am not sure if this will invalidate your warranty but it does allow you to recover your disc.
