Cute, friendly, affectionate, fascinating to watch, active, quiet, intelligent, clean, inquisitive, cheap to keep. I've had 5 and can't imagine being without them!
Although generally very friendly, gerbils can give a nasty nip when provoked! They like to chew, and they are proficient escape artists - be warned! As with all animals, vet's bills for a sick gerbil are not cheap, however they are generally healthy creatures.
Treat them well and your gerbils will give you around two to three years of amusement, companionship and affection. A great pet if space is limited. You must not attempt to introduce two gerbils who have not been brought up together from a young age as they will fight to the death. Try animal welfare centres if you are looking for gerbils.
