General Comments
The Hour of the Lynx, by Per Olov Enquist, performed at The Old Red Lion Theatre in Islington, is a powerful piece of drama, well acted and well presented. The play is thought provoking and disturbing; the set, by Colin Williams, is spartan yet totally appropriate for the play; and the direction focused. The actors are superb. Seb Steiger, as The Boy, gives an intense, committed and disturbing portrayal of the main character of the play. Ros Liddiard, as the Pastor, portrays a deep and meaningful character, sympathetic, yet revealing her own emotional frailties. Rebecca Adamson, totally believable as the social worker, reveals some of the ambiguities of the character she portrays. Steve Hennessy's direction is focused and committed, although some of the lighting changes appeared at times arbitrary.
All in all, an excellent evening's entertainment, thought provoking and disturbing; theatre at its best.
