Good Value for Money.
Something for Everyone.
Not too crowded.
Good Location.
No lockers for your valuables near the water-rides.
Universal Mediterranea Resort, PortAventura is an American style theme park built near Salou and convenient to most resorts on the Costa Dorada. It would have been good value anyways, but you should look out for special offers that can make it even cheaper, we visited the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona a few days before we visited PortAventura and on the back of the Nou Camp admission tickets was a 13 Euro discount on PortAventura admission, while we were also given coupons in a restaurant which gave 2 admissions for the price of 1. You should also look into multi day tickets, if you are staying locally, especially if you have kids with you.
The theme park itself is divided into five zones: Far West, Mexico, China, Polynesia and Mediterrania. The two main thrill rides in the park are the Hurakan Condor, which lifts you 100 metres in the air before plunging you through an 86 metre free fall and the Dragon Khan, which claims to be the world's only 8 loop roller coaster. When we were there, the wait for the Hurakan Condor was pretty short, but it was 35 minutes for Dragon Khan, so if the Universal Express service is working, then this would be the ride to use it on.
Elsewhere in the park, there were lovely bumper cars just designed for kids, called Buffalo Rodeo, in the Far West Zone. You will also find an excellent Wild West stunt show(Fort Frenzee) here, which despite being largely in Spanish was still easy to follow and enjoy and there was also a good Can Can Show, if dancing girls, some clowning and singing is your preference. We'd also advise you not to miss the Aloha Tahiti show, which has dancing, singing and some audience fun.
The park also has several water rides such as log flumes, but we were a bit puzzled by the fact that most people of these rides were wearing waterproof ponchos to avoid getting wet, which we thought was the point and main enjoyment of such rides. Mind you, they don't provide lockers by these rides for your valuables(like the US theme parks often do), so maybe the ponchos are to protect cameras etc.
Overall though, we really enjoyed our day at Port Aventura and would recommend it.
