General Comments

Lemar was one of the lucky ones to come off a boring Reality TV programme. I have to admit that I didn't actually watch Fame Academy, so I can't say I voted for him, that I cheered him on, and I definitely can't say I wanted him to win from the start. I don't lie. But anyway, he did well soon after Fame Academy, and he's now on to a second album. The album I am about to review

The album:
+++++++

The album is called "Time To Grow" - I suppose it's a bit ironic because of him actually growing in the Music Business. It's a nice name for an album, very clever I think. The picture on the front is quite normal - just a picture of Lemar with his head away from the camera. He's got a black jacket on, and you can see a bit of his big, thick silver chain. "Lemar" is in big writing covering most of his body, and then "Time To Grow" is underneath, in slanted letters.

The Songs

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number One: Soulman: 3 minutes, 18 seconds.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This goes straight into song, and will be the kind of song to get you on the dance floor straightaway.

My Rating: 4/10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Two: Better Than This: 3 minutes, 22 seconds
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This slows down a bit, though you can still hear a beat in the background, and it would still keep you dancing. It's a bit Latino for the album though, and doesn't really suit Lemar.

My Rating: 5/10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Three: I Don't Mind That: 3 minutes, 34 seconds
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Another upbeat song, making your mind great, but your legs ache.

My Rating: 6/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Four: What If: 4 minutes, 28 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The first bits of the song are slow, but then it begins to have a bit of a beat, but will still be a slow or sit down song. It tells you the story of Lemar asking, "What if I never met you?" and basically boils down to the fact that he's wondering and getting scared over not meeting his beau.

My Rating: 8/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Five: Call Me Daddy: 3 minutes, 19 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This has a little bit of Latino added to it, making you think as though you can see girls dancing in the background, swinging their big designer hips, and flicking their long, brown hair around.

My Rating: 5/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Six: If There's Any Justice: 3 minutes, 49 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This was the first song off the album to be released, and it was a good choice by the producers. It first starts off with a little soft drum noise, and a little humming by Lemar, but then it gets into music. Basically, this song is about Lemar telling us that if there was any justice in the world, that he would be with you. The video of the song is as though he is a stalker! Everywhere this girl is, he's there!

My Rating: 9/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Seven: Don't Give It Up: 3 minutes, 43 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This isn't quite a slow song, but not quite a fast one. I suppose you'd call it r'n'b. It gets a bit faster into the middle, but still isn't what you'd call a fast song.

My Rating: 6/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Eight: Time To Grow: 3 minutes, 43 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The second song to be released from the album, this is the perfect ex-love song. The intro immediately tells you it's going to be a slow one, because of the type of piano music it has. This song is where Lemar is telling us that he's still in love with his ex, and he wishes she felt the same way, but obviously she doesn't - life isn't that fair. If you listened to this after you'd had an argument with your partner, you'd probably feel like just texting/ringing them to say sorry! No one wants to feel like he does, no one wants to be lonely.

My Rating: 10/10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Nine: Complicated Cupid: 3 minutes, 37 seconds
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Immediately from the start this song has rhythm, and it isn't the type of song you'd dance to at your wedding. Not because the lyrics are like something from a Firestarter album, but because the song is quite fast!

My Rating: 4/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Ten: Maybe Just Maybe: 3 minutes, 35 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After the last song, you'd think they'd carry it on to be another fast song, but this is yet another slow, sloppy song. It's a nice, soft song though, and he doesn't know whether he should be staying with her, or be parting with her.

My Rating: 7/10

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Eleven: Feels Right: 4 minutes, 9 seconds
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This follows tracks from the last song; another slow one! Unlike the last though, this is a type of song that you'd dance to at your wedding. The lyrics are describing how much he loves his girlfriend, and that his future lies with her, and that it feels right with her.

My Rating: 8/10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Number Twelve: All I Ever Do/My Boo (Part II): 4 minutes, 10 seconds
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Where would we be without a sexual song? This is very similar to something that Lionel Richie would sing. Lemar thinks it's time to get physical with his girl.

My Rating: 6/10

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bonus Track: I Believe In A Thing Called Love: 3 Minutes, 33 seconds
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is a very good bonus! It has Lemar singing bits of other people's songs, with his own music background, just the same lyrics! The main bit of the song is The Darkness' "I believe in a thing called love". I do not like this bit though, because I keep expecting Justin to screech "touching youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, touching meeeeeeeeee". Then he says, "Stop" and then begins to sing "All my life" by Kaci and Jo-jo. This song is very special to me (it's mine and my boyfriends special song) and because I love the original, I refuse to like any cover!

My Rating: 6/10.

++++++++++++++++++++++++
Conclusion Of The Whole Album
++++++++++++++++++++++++

I never got the first album of his, so this was quite a surprise. I thought it'd be much cheesier music because of the songs he has previously released, but they are quite "grown up". He's done himself proud though, and I would certainly recommend his album to anyone who likes a bit of r'n'b come soul.

My Rating: 7/10.

Star Song

Time To Grow. I really like this song and the lyrics really are superb.

Price
+++++

You can pay 9.99 delivered on Play.com or 8.99 on Amazon, but you have to pay delivery. I wouldn't know about the price of it in a normal CD shop, because well, I'm not one for 'buying' CD's.

"Time to Grow" is just excellent. A UK artist bringing out this quality is not often found but Lemar has proved that he is the UK's premier soul singer and on this evidence he cannot be touched.
