General Comments

My story is like many others...had a card with another company for 9 years and then it was sold to Fleet. Within 7 months I had a brand new card called Providian Emerge Credit Card. They jacked my interest rate up to 29.9% and added a $100 annual fee that put me over the limit gifting them with an over the limit fee.

I transferred my balance to a new card. It is reprehensible that the law allows this kind of gouging of its citizens. The fear of paying their attorney fees and what it will do to our credit rating keeps us from fighting these corporate sleezeballs. We are powerless against the deep pockets of their lobbyists and we are powerless to control what goes on our credit record and they know it.

I am so with you concerning this. I experienced a similar situation and on top of that, after having a Providian credit card for a number of years, NEVER late, and ALWAYS paid more than the minimum payment, they had me at 29.9% interest and would not "bow down" to decreasing the interest, so I transferred the balance to a better card that offered -0- APR for 12 months on balance transfers and a generous credit line. Goodbye to these sleezeballs!

It isn't right, that's true. I'm in the same boat your in and there's alot of this kind of legal crockery going on in this country that lines the pockets of the "already too rich".
