Good Points

Powerful editing features.

Bad Points

Unstable. Cannot mix frame rates. Poor DVD Import.

General Comments

The Pinnacle Studio 9.0 Video creation and editing software is highly unstable.
Whatever good points it may have, are negated by the fact that it hangs or crashes frequently, particularly during editing.
I am seriously considering reporting this product to the Trading Standards people.

I have used Pinnacle Studio for quite a while now and the only real operational problem I've had has been its annoying tendency to freeze frame in the preview window. Bearing in mind my machine is no slouch - AMD 64/3200+/1Gb RAM, 256Mb video - there is no hardware justification for this happening.

My biggest gripe is its DVD burning quality. I recently compiled a 30-minute video and burned it to DVD. The quality of the AVI files was fine on the PC, but when I watched the DVD on the TV, the picture quality was absolutely awful and some of the soundtrack sounded 'phased'. Several of the sections looked like they were recorded in Jerko-Vision.

Decidedly unhappy with this, I took the exact same files and assembled them into Ulead DVD workshop, knocked up a menu (these are rubbish in Pinnacle Studio) and burned a DVD. Result - perfect!

The only good thing about Studio is that it's easy to mess about with and learn, so as a freebie it's just about OK. Then when you've learned a bit, you can get a decent product.
